Skeptic Meadery is hiring an Assistant Brewer and Mead-tender who is enthusiastic about mead and the craft alcohol scene, supporting small business, and the farm to table movement.
Responsibilities
Assist the head brewer on brewing days which includes cleaning/prepping equipment, mixing ingredients, and taking measurements
Assist the head brewer on bottling days which includes sanitizing bottles, filling and capping bottles, labeling, and stocking
Assist with remote and intermittent in-person monitoring of production batches and execute adjustments with direction from the head brewer
Lead the cleaning of the production facility after brewing and bottling
Stock brewing supplies and keep records of supply inventory
Monitor product inventory and maintain inventory records
Pack and ship online orders
Independently staff the meadery counter which includes set up, assisting customers and answering questions about the product, selling mead by the glass and bottle, managing the cash drawer and square system for sales, and clean up
Assist the head brewer in off-season production facility deep cleans
Qualifications
Experience with homebrewing
Adept at timely electronic communication (text, email)
Comfortable working with the metric system of measurement
Ability to read and carry out technical written instructions
Legible handwriting and ability to keep written and digital documentation
Familiarity with sterile technique
Enjoy talking to customers
Customer service experience
Enthusiastic about the product
Clean, organized, and detail oriented
Preferred
Commercial brewing experience
Prior experience working with sterile technique in a food, medical, or lab environment
Bartending experience with Tennessee bartending license
Additional Requirements
Age 21 years +
Consistent Friday night and weekend availability June-November
Reliable personal transportation
Reliable mobile phone and service
Ability to lift and carry at least 60 lbs up a step ladder
Ability to work standing and walking up to 8 hours at a time with intermittent breaks
Willingness to get Tennessee bartending license (fees paid by employer)
Willingness to work with mild brewery chemicals (StarSan, Powdered Brewery Wash, peracetic acid)
Work Schedule
June - September (approximately 15-20 hours/week)
Fridays and Saturdays 12-7pm at the meadery counter
September - November (approximately 20-30 hours/week)
Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays 12-7pm at the meadery counter
November-June (approximately 10-15 hours/week)
Pay Range
$16-18 per hour +tips (when bartending)
